NHS use outsourcing to make people better
There are many things in the United Kingdom which are bad and which cause outrage and anger all over the world but there are things that are the envy of people everywhere. One of the greatest things about the United Kingdom is the National Health Service which provides health care services to the population and is a marked world apart from the status in the United States of America. President Obama has recently made overtures to implementing a new health care system in America which is run along the lines of the British model but not everything in the NHS is quite ideal.
One of the most important things for people trying to regain their health and get better is proper nutrition but this is sometimes lacking on the NHS. Due to the way that the NHS is run, there is not always enough money in the budget to pay for quality food, especially given how many people are required to be fed in hospitals. The need to spend money on important health care facilities and machines has led to the budget available being focused on the key issues, which is important but the bigger picture is sometimes being overlooked.
A solution has been found by some local NHS councils and the beauty of it is, the solution has been found on their own doorstep. A number of NHS wards and smaller regions are turning to local producers to provide the food provisions for patients and for once, outsourcing has been welcomed by the local community.
Far too often, outsourcing means taking jobs out of the local region and transporting them far away. Quite often, these jobs are placed offshore, which means the work can be obtained for a much lower price but causing great harm in the local community. Any job losses will have a larger effect on the wider community as other stores and companies are affected by the losses which occur. This is the major reason why so many local bodies are up in arms about outsourcing and why local MPs and councilors look to get involved in the situation. Those who believe in true market forces do not think that politicians should get involved in business decisions or practices but when potential job losses could decimate a local community, it is clear why public opinion is raised so high.
However, the NHS is bucking this trend by actually outsourcing their food preparation line to local suppliers, who are taking over the workload. This is freeing up local NHS budgets for more important matters and is creating jobs in the local community. It also means that local produce is being used; hopefully ensuring the food is fresher when it is served to the patient. All of this means that the decision to outsource the work to local firms and suppliers is of benefit on a great number of levels.
The UK is not getting everything right at the moment but the NHS is doing what it can to ensure its population gets healthier.
